The radio-television program prepares students for employment in production and management at broadcast stations, networks, cable-TV companies, independent production houses, school media centers, and corporate or industrial television operations.

This major consists of twelve courses and includes audio and video production, announcing, news, broadcasting, sales and promotion, technology, and station management. The standards are high and the program is vigorous.

Radio program majors work both news and programming shifts on KKOM radio, which operates on cable Channel 3, and then progress to similar work on KETR-FM, the University's award-winning 100,000-watt public radio station. At KETR, students work side-by-side with five full-time broadcast professionals who supervise their work.

In television, students progress from lighting and camera operation to announcing, technical directing, and directing. KETV, the University's cable television, is completely student run. Programs have included: Campus Chaos, Speak Up, Speak Out, Talk of the Town, Studio 122, and News Center 3, recently named one of the best student television broadcast news shows in Texas.

The radio-television department maintains a careful balance between in-class academic work and practical "hands-on" broadcast experience. All students begin actual production in audio immediately and most will do some form of on-air work by their second semester.
