A&M-Commerce MFA Student Receives Prestigious Arts Fellowship

A current Texas A&M University-Commerce graduate student was recently the recipient of a renowned fellowship from a Dallas-Fort Worth area art gallery. Alex Ordóñez, currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts degree in Art with a Studio Art emphasis, was named a 2021 Equity in Arts Fellow by the Talley Dunn Gallery. The fellowship provides recipients with a $1,000 stipend, monthly cohort meetings with the entire gallery team focusing on different areas of career development, access to gallery resources and connections throughout the year, and more. Ordóñez, a native of Ecuador, navigates issues of cultural identity and social justice through natural materials including clay, papier-mâché, fabric and paper. He also teaches at Alvin Community College in Alvin, Texas. Learn more about the fellowship.
