A Conversation with Dr. Seneviratne

Tell us about a project you are currently working on or recently completed.

Recently, I have been studying quantum error correction codes (QECC). I have used graph-based techniques to obtain new zero-dimensional QECC.

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?

You will have a great college experience. We have small class sizes, and students get individual attention. The faculty at A&M-Commerce are dedicated and care about students both in and outside the classroom. There are various research opportunities for students.

What draws you to your discipline?

Mathematics is both challenging and enjoyable. My area of research is in coding theory, an interdisciplinary subject that connects mathematics with communications engineering and computer science. This subject area is where pure math concepts are applied in real-world applications.

What has been your favorite course to teach?

There is no one particular favorite class. I like to teach any class in the curriculum, from first-year math to graduate classes. I have taught MATH 2318: Linear Algebra most often.
