A Texas A&M University-Commerce alum was recently honored by the Texas Bar Foundation after being named a Foundation Fellow. Carey F. Walker, who currently serves as the Judge of Tarrant County Criminal Court 2, graduated from East Texas State University (now A&M-Commerce) in 1978 with a B.B.A in Human Resources Management. He later earned a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University in 1984. Walker ran his own law practice from 1996 until his election to his current position in 2014. His current term expires in 2026. The Texas Bar Foundation is the largest charitably funded bar foundation in the U.S. According to a foundation press release, selection as a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation is restricted to members of the State Bar of Texas. Each year, only one-third of one percent of Texas attorneys are invited to become Fellows. Nominees must be elected by the Foundation Board of Trustees. Membership has grown from an initial 255 Charter Members in 1965 to more than 10,000 Fellows throughout Texas today.
