Lion Women’s Golf Takes Second at SLC Championships, Tied for Program-Best Finish
NEW BRAUNFELS – The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s golf record book is re-written following a second-place finish at the Southland Conference Championships this week at The Bandit Golf Club.
The Lions finished second in the seven-team conference championship, which is tied for the best finish at a conference championship in program history, best finish for the program at any tournament in the Division I era, and it is tied for the best finish in the Southland for any sport at A&M-Commerce since joining NCAA Division I, joining the soccer team, who finished as the runner up at the SLC Tournament in 2022.
“I’m so proud of this group of women,” said interim coach Brian Dolehide. “We had a great time together this semester and had some great results at the same time. What a way to end the season!”
On Wednesday, the Lions shot a team score of 301, compiling a total score of 926 (308-317-301). Augusta won the conference championship and advances to the NCAA Regionals with a score of 859, while A&M-Corpus Christi finished five strokes back of the Lions.
Jordan Ducskas (Flower Mound Marcus) and Julianna Crow (Trinity School of Midland) finished 7-8. Dusckas shot a 74 on Wednesday and finished with a score of 227, while Crow carded a round of 75 for a total score of 229.
Both Benz Far-Arun (Bangkok, Thailand) and Marie Baertz (Luxembourg) tied for 13th with a score of 235 each, both shot matching scores of 76 in the final round. Marie Naeher (Neuenbuerg, Germany) was 24th with a score of 245, shooting an 80 on Wednesday.
The Jaguars’ Kennedy Carroll was the individual medalist with a score of 207 (69-67-71), winning by nine strokes. UIW’s Ellen Nicholas posted a score of 216, including a 66 on Wednesday, and qualifies for the NCAA Regionals as well, having recorded the best finish for any non-Augusta golfer.
The Southland Conference Championship finished the 2023-24 season for the Lions, who are in the second year of their transition as being full members of NCAA Division I.
