COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce has named Tre’ Johnson the Assistant Athletics Director for Development, as announced on Wednesday morning by Deputy Athletics Director for Revenue Generation Josiah Castro.

Johnson comes over to the athletic department after serving as the Director of Philanthropy at A&M-Commerce in the Division of Philanthropy and Engagement over the past year. He is a frontline fundraiser for the university, advancing relationships and securing numerous major gifts to the university.

“We are excited to have Tre join our team,” said Castro. “Over the past year he has done a tremendous job of connecting with our alumni, donors, and businesses to build support for the University. His background and skills will be an asset to building the support we need for our student-athletes.”

In his new role within Lion Athletics, Johnson is tasked with leading and coordinating all fundraising activities for the athletic departments, especially major gifts, and annual gifts to the Lion Athletics Scholarship Fund.

“A&M-Commerce has a rich history of being the standard in education and athletics,” said Johnson. “I am humbled by the opportunity to be a part of that legacy and working alongside our student-athletes and coaches, who have done a phenomenal job ushering in the Division I era.”

“Every day is a great day to be a Lion and supporting the Pride. I look forward to connecting and sharing our story with donors, alumni, parents, and friends. Go Lions!”

Johnson began his career in donor and alumni relations as a student worker at Southeastern Louisiana University, a fellow Southland Conference institution. Following graduation from Southeastern, he spent four years at George College and State University as the assistant director of alumni awards, reunions, and collaborations.

Prior to arriving at A&M-Commerce, Johnson was the director of affinity groups and special projects at Benedict College.

A native of New Orleans, Johnson received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southeastern as well as his master’s degree in sport management. He loves to cook and cheer on his Saints during football season. Johnson resides in Greenville with his wife, Dr. Tyron’E Hawkins.
