College of Business Student Delegation Shines at NABA’s ‘The Insight 2024: Flow Career Expo’ in Las Vegas

A delegation comprised of 17 students from the College of Business at A&M-Commerce recently attended “The Insight 2024: Flow Career Expo,” organized by the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) in Las Vegas from June 17 to 21.

The highly anticipated event brought together over 2,500 attendees, including more than 1,000 students and 70 corporate partners, for an immersive experience in professional development, networking, and career advancement within the fields of accounting, finance and business.

The expo was a dynamic event filled with educational workshops, professional networking opportunities and community service activities that connected business leaders, professionals and students with top employers, offering invaluable career guidance and insights. Attendees were kept abreast of the latest industry trends, best practices and emerging developments, while also building mentor-mentee relationships and accessing on-the-spot internship and full-time job opportunities.

Reflecting on his participation, Tosin Ilori, a Business Analytics graduate student and president of the A&M-Commerce NABA student organization said, “We are delighted to see that our participation at such a conference is growing and proud to be representing the College of Business.” He went on to highlight the importance of having such opportunities to attend high-caliber events as they provide networking opportunities with their student peers as well as industry professionals.

“Since attending the NABA event last year, several of our NABA chapter members and College of Business students have all been able to secure roles at highly prestigious institutions such as Deloitte, Cummings, and Fidelity Investments, all as a result of their participation,” Ilori said.

Among the notable accomplishments of the student-led delegation this year was Sara Usoro’s success as part of the winning team in the accounting/finance problem challenge. Her win showcased the students’ exceptional problem-solving abilities and teamwork, which reflected the strength of the programs offered at the College of Business.

Key highlights of the event included the C-suite plenary session, which featured distinguished panelists such as Aaron Anderson (Chief Accounting Officer, Meta), Dave Dowrich (Chief Financial Officer, TIAA), and Rob Fauber (Chief Executive Officer, Moody's). The Juneteenth celebrations were particularly memorable, featuring a panel discussion with Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis and musical performances by Bebe Winans and Mike Ellison.

The impact of attending “The Insight 2024: Flow Career Expo” on Texas A&M University-Commerce students has been profound. Several students secured interviews for full-time roles, with ongoing follow-up interviews that may lead to job offers. Additionally, the exposure to current and emerging trends in accounting and business has better prepared students for their future careers. The event also facilitated important connections between the A&M-Commerce NABA chapter executives and the national NABA executives, paving the way for future opportunities and collaborations.

“The College of Business at Texas A&M University-Commerce, through its robust Accounting and Finance Department and student organizations like NABA, is dedicated to equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed,” Dr. Ran Ling, Assistant Professor of Accounting and the Faculty Chair for NABA at A&M-Commerce, said. “These platforms provide invaluable opportunities for professional growth, networking, and career advancement, underscoring the college's commitment to fostering student success.”
