Carlos Rivers, an analyst for the Texas A&M University-Commerce Institute of Competency-Based Education Operations Research, has been invited to join the National Advisory Board for Postsecondary Competency-Based Education and Learning Research. He will have a special role on the working group championing the National Survey of Postsecondary Competency-Based Education (NSPCBE).
As a member of the board, Rivers will have the opportunity to shape the research agenda related to CBE and competency-based learning (CBL), which will identify and refine questions important to key audiences, including students, policymakers, institution leaders, and faculty. The agenda will inform and facilitate research projects carried out by the American Institutes for Research, the Lumina Foundation and other partners, in order to provide the field with more and better information about CBE and CBL.
This recognition allows the Institute for Competency-Based Education (ICBE) at A&M-Commerce to chart the course of research in this field, and identify the ways in which the research agenda and its eventual findings can benefit the communities of practice A&M-Commerce represents.
“Congratulations! We sincerely thank Carlos for taking on this special role, with a mission of advancing TAMUC and CBE,” said Dr. Shonda Gibson, Associate Provost and acting director for the ICBE. “I appreciate his continued focus on thinking creatively to give students options for transforming their lives.”
Rivers' tenure begins in early 2018 and continues through the end of 2020. The board's first annual convening will take place Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Washington, D.C.
