College of Business To Host 7th Annual Small Business and Entrepreneurship Conference (SBECON)
The College of Business at A&M-Commerce hosts its 7th annual Small Business and Entrepreneurship Conference (SBECON) on May 16 at the Alumni Center. This year's conference will be shortened to a “Lunch and Learn” mini-conference, aiming to make the event more convenient for business owners, their employees, business managers, and aspiring entrepreneurs from the area.
Dr. J. Robert Collins, Senior Lecturer and Executive in Residence for the Department of Management, is again leading the planning and organization for the conference which will focus on subjects of interest to small businesses and entrepreneurs in the North Texas region. Sponsors for the event represent some of the major economic development corporations (EDCs) in the region, including the Commerce EDC, the Greenville EDC, the Farmersville EDC, and the Sulphur Springs EDC.
Dr. Shanan Gibson, Dean of the College of Business, stated, “An unstated part of our mission as a College is to bring together individuals to share ideas and focus attention on promoting small business, entrepreneurship and economic development for the region. SBECON does just that.”
The main conference speaker will be Jeff Wacker, a professional Futurist and Principal at JLW Futures who focuses on the major trends that are driving the next socio-economic environment. Previously a Hewlett-Packard Senior Fellow, Mr. Wacker often consults with leading companies, government entities, and angel investment forums; he also mentors major companies in their transition from traditional to emerging technology positions.
The Lunch and Learn will take place from 12-2 PM at the Alumni Center. Admission is $20 and includes lunch. Registration is now open and can be accessed at https://marketplace.tamuc.edu/SBECON.
