Supporting the Process of Institutional Research
Institutional Research supports the ongoing process of collecting, analyzing, reporting and warehousing quantitative and qualitative data about the institution’s students, faculty and staff.
Our Mission
Institutional Research provides information to support university decision-making through a variety of analytic activities, data-gathering tasks and research projects. IR works with offices and individuals internally and externally to maintain data/report integrity and quality to fit for their intended uses in operations, decision making and planning.

Our department serves as a resource for departments when they are preparing Program Reviews. Some of the information we provide is:
- Enrollment (Source: CBM001 ) # of students enrolled by Dept. and Major CIP for a specific term. Unduplicated Headcount. SCH are calculated from the students SCH for the semester.
- Degrees Conferred (Source: CBM009)
- Course History (Source: CBM004)
- Course Retention (Source: Banner Grade Table) # of students who received a grade of A, B, C, D, F for a given term.
- Semester Credit Hour (Source: CBM004) # of SCH’s are based on the number of credit hours offered for the course X the number of students enrolled for the course.
- Faculty FTE (Source: Business Objects)

The East Texas A&M Graduation Exit Survey is administered every semester to all students who apply for graduation.
The Common Data Set (CDS) initiative is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers represented by the College Board, Peterson’s and U.S. News & World Report.
The goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of the information provided to the various surveying entities. Through the development of clear, standard data items and definitions this goal is attained.
East Texas A&M participates in the National Survey of Student Engagement biennially. NSSE focuses on two key areas:
- The amount of time and effort students put into their studies and other educationally purposeful activities.
- How the institution uses its resources and organizes the curriculum and other learning opportunities to get students to participate in activities that research shows are linked to student learning.
Responses collected from this survey provide meaningful data which reflects the level at which student engagement improves over the course of their four-year college experience.

What is an SSI Report?
With this information, colleges and universities can target areas most in need of improvement in order to retain students. The SSI asks students to respond with a level of importance and a level of satisfaction. A performance gap is calculated by subtracting the satisfaction score from the importance score.
