What is Vita?

The VITA grant program is an IRS initiative designed to support free tax preparation services for underserved populations through various partner organizations. This service helps individuals with low to moderate income, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speakers file their taxes each year. The IRS awards matching funds to support organizations in the U.S. and the District of Columbia that offer free tax preparation services during the tax filing season.

The East Texas A&M College of Business has now become a VITA partner organization to assist Northeast Texas residents with their tax filing needs.

  • Disabled
  • Limited English-speaker
  • Senior citizen (age 65 or older)

  • Request an appointment using our online scheduling platform. Please provide your name, email address and telephone number. Appointments must be booked at least 48 hours before the start time, up to 7 days in advance.
  • After booking, you will receive a confirmation email containing a Google Meet video conference link.
  • An East Texas A&M volunteer preparer will send a list of required documents to the taxpayer (and spouse if Married Filing Jointly), including Form 14446 and the Virtual VITA/TCE Taxpayer Consent form. The volunteer preparer will also provide the taxpayer(s) with the virtual return preparation process and the written procedures outlined on Form 14446.
  • Please reach out to the VITA Clinic at [email protected] or at our phone line at 903.886.5659 if you have any questions.

  • Sign and email Form 14446 to [email protected]. Note: If the taxpayer(s) does not agree to the consent, the volunteer cannot use the virtual process to prepare the return. Taxpayer(s) must sign and send the form back prior to beginning any services.
  • Gather all relevant tax documents and complete Form 13614-C, the Intake/Interview Sheet.

  • During the Google Meet session, your East Texas A&M volunteer preparer will explain the return preparation and quality review processes, review all documents with you to make sure no additional information is needed, and verify that the return is within the scope of VITA’s services.
  • If filing a Married Filing Jointly return, both spouses are required to attend an interview session to complete the virtual return preparation process.

  • After completion, the return must go through a quality review process. You (and your spouse, if applicable) will be contacted by a designated quality reviewer to perform the quality review.
