Josiah Castro Appointed as Deputy Athletics Director for Revenue Generation
COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce Director of Athletics Jim Curry has appointed Josiah Castro as the Deputy Athletics Director for Revenue Generation.
Castro, who comes to A&M-Commerce following a four-year stint at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, is tasked with growing revenue streams for Lion Athletics and the Lion Champions Fund, in addition to oversight of all external relations units.
“We are thrilled to welcome Josiah and his family to A&M-Commerce.” Curry said. “His energy, passion, and proven success in revenue generation at multiple Division I institutions will provide an immediate impact as we pursue our mission to serve, win, and transform.”
At A&M-Corpus Christi, Castro began his tenure on the Island as the Chief Revenue Officer and was elevated to Senior Associate AD in 2022. He was responsible for the department’s fundraising activities, including the Islander Athletic Fund and major gifts, the athletics corporate sponsorship program, and the ticket office.
Castro supervised all departmental revenue generation activities which resulted in annual increases in corporate sponsorship revenue, gift revenue, ticket sales, and special event revenue. Corporate sales revenue eclipsed department records in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 fiscal years, and Islander Athletic Fund membership and revenue increased steadily since Castro’s arrival.
“My family is very excited to be a part of the A&M Commerce family,” said Castro. “I would like to thank the search committee, Sarah Aly, and Jim Curry for giving me the opportunity to impact the amazing student-athletes at this university. I’m looking forward to building upon the championship history of Lion Athletics in the Division I era.”
Prior to A&M-Corpus Christi, Castro spent five years at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB). In his role as Assistant Athletic Director of Development, Castro had oversight of all athletics giving to the university including major gifts, annual fund, endowments, and capital projects. He played a significant role in securing the largest fundraising year (2017–18) in the past 10 years, raising over $2.7 million in athletics support.
Before arriving to CSUB, Castro was the Coordinator of Membership Sales for the Aggie Athletic Fund at New Mexico State University. He also spent time with the Aggies as Sponsorship Account Manager, generating new sponsors for the 2013–14 sports season. Earlier in his time at NMSU, Castro served as Senior Ticket Sales Consultant after originally joining the Aggies as a Development Assistant for their football program.
Castro has also worked in the private sector as a Research Manager for APCO Worldwide in Washington, DC. There he conducted global strategic opinion research for Fortune 100 companies and trade associations.
Curry added, “championship aspirations require championship resources, and Josiah brings the requisite knowledge, skills, and experience to elevate our external operations as we position A&M-Commerce to be the preeminent Division I FCS institution in the country.”
Castro graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from New Mexico State University. He received his Master of Professional Studies in Sports Industry Management — Strategic Marketing, Communications, and New Media from Georgetown University.
A native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Castro and his wife Jennifer have two sons, Dorian and Atticus.
