Agribusiness Experts On Campus Dec. 11

COMMERCE, Texas – North and Northeast Texas producers and ranchers will meet at Texas A&M University-Commerce on Thursday, Dec. 11, for the Ag Technology Conference.

The conference will feature the latest methods used in agriculture by experts in the field.

Hosts will be Cereal Crops Research Incorporated (CCRI) based at A&M-Commerce, Texas AgriLife Extension, and the agribusiness industry.

Farmers and ranchers can register and visit with suppliers and exhibitors from 8 to 10 a.m. in the new Sam Rayburn Student Center.

The moderator for the morning sessions will be Mike Perkins of Hornbeck Seed.

A&M-Commerce President Dan Jones will extend the welcome at 10 a.m.

He will be followed by Jason Norsworthy, associate professor of agriculture, University of Arkansas. Norsworthy will speak on “Weed Resistance to Glyphosate: An Emerging Problem in the Mid South.”

At 11 a.m., there will be a session on “Managing Difficult to Control Brushy Weeds in Northeast Texas” led by Dr. John Boyd, Extension weed specialist, University of Arkansas.

The noon luncheon will be held in the Texas Ballroom of the student center. An A&M-Commerce faculty combo will entertain with bluegrass music.

Presiding at the afternoon sessions will be Dr. Fred Moore of BASF Corporation.

From 1 to 2 p.m., Dr. Ron Renchie, Extension Program leader for Agricultural and Environmental Safety with Texas AgriLife Extension, will present “Update: Laws and Regulations.”

This will be followed by a panel discussion on “New Product Technologies: A Look at the Next Five Years.” Speaking will be Dr. Eric Castner with DuPont, Dr. Gary Fellows with BASF Corporation, Dr. Chad Cummings of Dow AgroSciences, and Dr. Jim Bloomberg with Bayer Crop Science.

Those completing the training will earn Continuing Education Units consisting of five CEUs for private applicator, five CEUs for commercial applicator, five for non-commercial applicator, and five for certified crop adviser.

The registration fee for the annual conference is $20 per person through Nov. 30. The late registration fee will be $30.
