Agribusiness Students Participate in 2017 Quiz Bowl
Interim Associate Director and Associate Professor of Agribusiness in the School of Agriculture, Dr. Jose Lopez, along with six Agribusiness students attended the Southern Agricultural Economics Association (SAEA) 2017 Quiz Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, February 4-7, 2017, on a travel grant covering expenses of the undergraduate participants.
The Quiz Bowl is an annual event where students are put into teams with universities from across the United States and play a jeopardy-like game in which they get to answer questions about macroeconomics, microeconomics, finance, quantitative, policy and potpourri categories.
“It was a great experience as well as an amazing networking opportunity,” said Tyler Raine. “I liked how it was set up in that you were not on a team with people from your school, but instead, were teamed up with students from other universities. My team consisted of students from a university in Wisconsin, Auburn and Clemson. It was really fun to advance through the rounds with my teammates. I also enjoyed attending the research presentations.”
For the past three years, the school has attended the SAEA Quiz Bowl. “It is very fulfilling to be able to take students to a national conference to participate in a Quiz Bowl contest, engage in experiential learning activities, and network with other students, faculty and professionals from all over the United States,” said Dr. Lopez. “Students get to appreciate and know what their discipline is all about outside their classroom. I am delighted to be able to do these types of activities for the students, and I hope that financial support will continue to be available. Students really enjoy and learn from these experiences.”
