Spring Alumni Networking Event
Attendees learned about the day-to-day functions of each job and what employers are looking for within these specific industries. The panelists provided information about how the industry is transacting client needs, customer relations and other business consulting needs. Data analysis strategies, security and risk management and business operations were all covered as well. They also specifically discussed, financial asset management and other financial services. “The idea is to help businesses run better and provide services to project outcomes and set goals for the economic situation to achieve those goals” said Edosa. They also discussed the skills needed to be successful in the areas related above and how degrees and certifications are important to relate to the job you are applying for. This includes bachelor's, master's, IT or general certifications.
“We stress to dress for and do the job you want” says Jessica from L3Harris. “Fill in the gaps at your current organization to get the experience you need to move up the ladder.”
Whitney added, “have a distinct value to the role you are applying for.” Know your strengths and articulate them to your potential employer. Other advice included networking and getting involved in professional networks.
On Thursday, March 25th, students, alumni and the community got a chance to hear from some of the successful College of Business alumni about industry trends they need to know. The goal of the event was to share experiences and gain insight from recent alumni. The event was moderated by Lacey Henderson. The panelists were Whitney Stewart, Field Sales Engineer for IT Solutions at Intel Corporation; Somto, Senior Consultant at EY Financial Services Tech Risk Practice; Jessica Morgan, Senior Manager of Resource Administration at L3Harris and Edosa Obaseki, CEO of Prairie Crossing Capital.
