A&M-Commerce and Houston Rodeo Celebrate a Half-Century of Partnership
Dr. Randy Harp, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) at Texas A&M University-Commerce, recently presented a special plaque to Dr. Chris Boleman, President and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, to commemorate 50 years of partnership between the rodeo and A&M-Commerce agricultural programs. From 1970 to 2020, the Rodeo has financially supported scholarships, graduate student stipends and research grants at A&M-Commerce. CASNR has awarded more than $2 million to students during this time frame thanks to assistance from the Rodeo. Harp said of the partnership: “Support and gifts of this nature truly enable students to go to school and reach their career goals. Otherwise, many students would not be able to afford college tuition, fees etc. HLSR has been a tremendous supporter of youth education all across Texas for more than 50 years and is committed to agricultural industry.”
Originally scheduled for 2020, this commemoration ceremony was delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
