A&M-Commerce Associate Director of Campus Rec Earns Service Award for Exemplary Leadership

A&M-Commerce staffer Jonathan Johnston received the NIRSA Annual Service Award for exemplary leadership as chair of the NIRSA Championship Series in 2022-2023. Johnston participated in a three-year leadership track on the executive team, beginning in Fall 2019 as the second vice-chair. He then served as vice-chair in 2021-2022 before stepping into the chair position in 2022-2023.

NIRSA comprises and supports current and emerging leaders in collegiate recreation. The Championship Series is the organization's opportunity to provide experiential learning through sport. The executive team provides vision and guidance for the series and oversees the work of committees.

Johnston, the associate director of Campus Recreation at A&M-Commerce, has been involved with the NIRSA Championship Series since 2008. He has volunteered at national tournaments for the series' four sports, including service on 35 flag football, basketball and soccer committees.
