A&M-Commerce Chemistry Student Receives Recognition at Regional Meeting
A&M-Commerce chemistry student Shea Garland received recognition for Outstanding Undergraduate Poster Presentation in Organic Chemistry at the American Chemical Society's recent 2021 Southwest Regional Meeting in Austin, Texas.
Garland is an Honors College student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
Dr. Stephen Starnes, associate professor of chemistry at A&M-Commerce, said he is proud of Garland's accomplishment, describing her as a skilled researcher.
“Shea's research is focused on developing sensors for environmental pollutants. She has been working on her honors thesis in my research group since Spring 2020 and I rely on her to help train new students in the group” Starnes said. “Witnessing her capabilities first-hand, I'm not the least bit surprised to see her win this award.”
Garland is set to graduate in Spring 2022 and plans to continue studying chemistry at the graduate level.
