A&M-Commerce featured in Eduventures annual review of Competency-Based Education
Eduventures has surveyed more than 250 schools to assess their current or planned implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE). The Institute for Competency-Based Education at A&M-Commerce completed this survey to continue the efforts to build critical evidence related to the effectiveness of CBE programs.
A leader in the field of CBE in Texas, A&M-Commerce was one of only seven institutions around the nation featured as a portrait of Institutional Practice in Eduventures’ annual publication “Deconstructing CBE: Portraits of Institutional Practice.” This invitation is only given out to those institutions that have moved beyond an experimental phase in competency-based education.
Featured in the portrait is A&M-Commerce’s own Dr. Shonda Gibson, who is a principal CBE stakeholder for the university. The portrait compiles institutional knowledge about A&M-Commerce’s experience in developing and implementing the Texas Affordable Baccalaureate program in Organizational Leadership. This initiative will be the state of Texas’ first SACSCOC-approved competency-based education program and is in its fourth year of operations with over 300 currently enrolled students and over 220 graduates.
