A&M-Commerce Gains Partner for Engineering Program
COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Commerce has a new partner for its industrial engineering program, Northeast Texas Community College.
Thanks to a recently signed agreement between the two schools, NTCC students can transfer to the ABET accredited industrial engineering program at A&M-Commerce without duplicating or losing previously earned credits.
“This is a new era for our college,” said Dr. Jess Dowdy, professor of physics/chemistry at Northeast Texas Community College. “Industrial engineering is a universal degree that will allow students to graduate with a four-year degree and get jobs making between $50,000 and $60,000,” Dowdy said.
The agreement was the product of many hours spent reviewing course equivalency between Dowdy and Dr. Matthew Elam, associate professor of industrial engineering at A&M-Commerce, according to Dr. Ben Cranor, assistant professor and interim department head.
“This semester the industrial engineering and technology program has over 400 full-time, on-campus students, including 42 freshmen,” Cranor said. “With the continued A&M-Commerce recruitment of freshmen into science, technology, engineering, education and mathematics and transfer agreements from community colleges, such as NTCC, we look forward to continued growth in our engineering and technology programs,” he said.
