A&M-Commerce Introduces Bachelor’s in Strength and Conditioning to Train Future Athletic Performance Coaches

The bachelor’s in strength and conditioning will provide a comprehensive curriculum combined with theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

The Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Commerce has launched an undergraduate degree for aspiring performance coaches.

The Bachelor of Science in Strength and Conditioning equips students with the skills and knowledge to excel in the rapidly growing field of athletic performance enhancement.

Preparing Future Performance Coaches

The degree adds to the university’s strong reputation in health and human performance education and research. The program supports student learning through a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge and practical applications in exercise science, kinesiology and sports studies. Students will train in areas including biomechanics, physiology and injury prevention.

With increased awareness of the importance of athlete safety and tailored training, the field offers new career opportunities in traditional and emerging sectors. Instructor and Program Director Hussien Jabai said the degree prepares students for careers as:

  • Strength and conditioning coaches
  • Athletic performance specialists
  • Corporate and occupational wellness professionals, and
  • Exercise scientists

“This program reflects our commitment to staying at the forefront of sports science education,” Jabai said. “We aim to develop professionals equipped to design and implement training programs that enhance athletic performance while prioritizing safety and long-term health.”

Additionally, students can gain real-world experience through hands-on internships with professional sports teams, collegiate athletics and fitness organizations.

Graduates will be well-positioned to pass the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The certification further enhances graduates’ career prospects.
