A&M-Commerce Show Team Celebrates Win
COMMERCE, Texas — Last year Texas A&M University-Commerce didn’t have an equine club or show team. This year they’re already making a name for themselves.
The A&M-Commerce Equine Show Team competed in a show in Sulphur Springs held by the Red River Horse Club and won several awards. The girls performed very well,” faculty adviser Lindsey Johnson said.
Show team members sophomore Rachael Kiowski, sophomore Carolyne Ellis, and junior Ashley Eagleton all won awards.
Kiowski, of Lone Oak, won first in open aged stallions, grand champion stallion, first in amateur stallions, and second in yearling long line.
Eagleton of Buckeye, Ariz., received first in mares, first in amateur mares, third and fourth in yearling long line, and grand champion mare.
Hawkins native Ellis received first in open aged geldings, first and second in amateur geldings, and grand champion gelding.
The equine show team is in its second semester. The show team has limited funds and participation, but growth is expected. The team has been showing yearlings owned by A&M-Commerce and aged horses loaned from Equine Enn, owned by Tim Johnson and Dr. Bill Taylor.
