Boxing Champion, John Ruiz, to Appear on Campus

Former two-time world heavyweight boxing champion John Ruiz, the first and only Latino to win a world title in the heavyweight division, will visit Texas A&M University-Commerce. Ruiz will participate in a “Latino Night Talk Show” on Monday, October 6 at 7 p.m. in the RSC conference rooms on the second floor.

This Hispanic Heritage Month event will be hosted by Dr. Robert Rodriguez, assistant professor of political science at A&M-Commerce and author of “The Regulation of Boxing: A History and Comparative Analysis of Policies in the American States.” The former champion will sign autographs and take photos with his World Boxing Association championship belt after the presentation. This event is free and open to the public.
