Chasing After Success: How John Larochelle’s Path Led Him to JPMorgan Chase

U.S. Air Force veteran and Texas A&M University-Commerce College of Business alumni John Larochelle secured a full-time position at JPMorgan Chase following a highly successful summer internship with the global financial institution.

Larochelle’s journey from military service to financial analysis is a testament to his determination, passion and the support he received from the faculty and staff at the College of Business.

He chose A&M-Commerce for its proximity to family but stayed because of the personalized learning experience and the opportunities it offered.

“The small class sizes allowed me to engage deeply with my professors and ask the questions that mattered,” Larochelle said. “It really made a difference in how I approached my education.”

During his time at the college, Larochelle's passion for finance was nurtured by several key mentors within the College of Business. He credits Dr. Srinivas Nippani and Dr. Celine Hoe for playing significant roles in shaping his understanding of finance.

“I really enjoyed talking about monetary policy and the market with Dr. Nippani during Financial Markets and Institutions, and getting into the weeds of International Business Finance with Dr. Hoe,” he recalled. These experiences, combined with the quality of the curriculum, prepared him to thrive in the competitive world of finance.

In the summer of 2024, Larochelle joined JPMorgan Chase as a global finance & business management summer analyst, working within the commercial bank's Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) division. His responsibilities included owning an executive reporting process and building a Profit & Loss (P&L) statement. His performance during the internship earned him a full-time offer from the financial giant.

“The experience at JPMorgan Chase was invaluable,” Larochelle remarked. “I was able to contribute to real-world projects and build relationships with top professionals in the industry.”

He also highlighted the critical role the College of Business' Career Services team played in his journey.

“The career coaching from Shernay Wormley was instrumental in helping me build a strong resume and gain the confidence to apply for competitive positions. I highly recommend their services to anyone serious about starting a career in finance.”

Wormley, senior career services coordinator at the College of Business, noted that Larochelle's story is just one of many examples of how the College of Business students are achieving success.

“John is one of many success stories at the College of Business,” Wormley said. “Our team works closely with members of the DFW community and beyond to build strong relationships with companies, securing internships, jobs, and career growth opportunities for our students.”
