Community College Faculty Receive Training at Metroplex Center
COMMERCE, Texas — Faculty from 10 Texas community colleges gathered on Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Mesquite campus Nov. 7 and 8 to learn new types of presentation methods including podcasts, vodcasts and screencasts.
The training, “Casting for Knowledge,” was funded by a Carl D. Perkins State Leadership grant and was directed by Dr. Vanessa E. Huse and Dr. Maribeth L. McAnally of A&M-Commerce.
“I really appreciate the work that was put into this training. It was great teamwork by people who are making great use of the technology,” said participant Ken Craver, director of distance education at Tyler Junior College.
Participants received a video camcorder, as well as their choice of an iPhone, iTouch, or iPod.
Now that they have been trained, faculty will begin to use podcasts in their classrooms and post them on the grant Web site. Faculty teams will host a similar training sessions on their own campuses.
