Cornel West – The Justice Matters Tour
The Texas A&M University-Commerce Sam Rayburn Speaker Series is proud to present Dr. Cornel West in The Justice Matters Tour. West is a prominent and provocative speaker for telling truth and bearing witness. His keynote takes place September 28 at 11 a.m. in Ferguson Auditorium.
West is a well-known author, activist and philosopher. Professor Emeritus at Princeton University, he has also taught at Union Theological Seminary, Yale, Harvard and the University of Paris. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard in just three years and obtained his master's and doctorate in philosophy at Princeton.
He is the author of 20 books, best known for “Race Matters” and “Democracy Matters” as well as his memoir “Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud.” His most recent book is “Black Prophetic Fire,” which offers an unflinching look at 19th and 20th century African American leaders and their visionary legacies.
He is a frequent guest on the Bill Maher show, CNN, C-Span and “Democracy Now!” He made his film debut in “The Matrix Reloaded” and has appeared in over 25 documentaries and other films including “Examined Life,” “Call + Response,” “Sidewalk” and “Stand.”
He has produced three spoken word albums including “Never Forget,” a collaboration with Prince, Jill Scott, Andre 3000, Talib Kweli, KRS-One and the late Gerald Levert. He speaks with passion on a number of topics in order to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
