East Texas A&M Music Student Named Principal Player in Shreveport Symphony
East Texas A&M University undergraduate student Zack Palm was recently named the principal tuba player in the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra (SSO). Palm is a Senior majoring in Music Performance and is a student of Dr. Jeffrey Baker. Palm earned the top position for his instrument with the SSO following four rounds of auditions, beating out professional players, teachers and graduate students for the role. The Shreveport Symphony, founded in 1948, is the oldest continuously operating professional orchestra in Louisiana and is under the direction of Michael Butterman. Their 2024-25 concert calendar includes performances of Holst’s “The Planets” suite, Faure’s “Requiem” and “Landslide: a tribute to the music of Fleetwood Mac.” Learn more about the Shreveport Symphony and about the School of Music at East Texas A&M University.
