ETAMU Alum Leading St. Croix District in U.S. Virgin Islands

East Texas A&M alum Dr. Sharlene Belton-Gonzalez ('22) is now the insular superintendent for the St. Croix District in the U.S. Virgin Islands. She assumed the post in July.

Belton-Gonzalez brings 24 years of experience in education, teaching 12 years in pre-k through post-secondary classrooms and 12 years in school administration.

“I am honored and excited to join the St. Croix District and to work alongside such dedicated educators and staff,” Belton-Gonzalez said in an announcement from the Virgin Islands Department of Education. “Together, we will continue to strive for excellence and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.”

Belton-Gonzalez holds a bachelor's in Spanish and a master's in adult education and training. In 2022, she earned her doctorate in higher education from A&M-Commerce (now East Texas A&M).
