ETAMU Hosting Annual Home Rodeo in Sulphur Springs for 6th Year
East Texas A&M University’s 6th annual home rodeo will be held on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Hopkins County Civic Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
The event will see collegiate rodeo programs from across the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's (NIRA) Southern Region—such as Texas A&M University, Sam Houston State University and Stephen F. Austin State University—compete against the Lions in various events.
Slack rounds for each day begin at 10 a.m., and the main performance begins at 7 p.m. Friday's performance will also include a presentation by the East Texas A&M Stock Horse Team. Both night's performances will include a “halftime show” comprised of steer-riding competitions featuring East Texas A&M student-athletes and Greek organization members.
A Lion alumni mixer is scheduled for February 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., during which Lion rodeo team members will sign posters. Alumni may RSVP online by January 27.
East Texas A&M Rodeo looks to secure its spot in the College National Finals Rodeo, scheduled for June 15-21, 2025, in Casper, Wyo. Currently, the women's team is second in the NIRA Southern Region standings, while the men's team is sixth. Individually, Trace Harris leads the Southern Region in the Steer Wrestling standings, and several Lions sit in the top three of their respective events.
Tickets for the East Texas A&M Rodeo are $5 per person, and children 13 and under are admitted free of charge. East Texas A&M students, faculty and staff also receive free admission.
