ETAMU Music Student Qualifies for National Vocal Competition
Several East Texas A&M University music students competed at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Texoma Regional Conference, with one student qualifying for the national level of competition. In total, 15 Lion students participated in a field that saw hundreds of competitors from across Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, with seven—Anna Hernandez, Emiliano Palomo, Josiah de Rueda, Jacob Vasquez, Daniel Feliberty Irizarry, Jun Gomez and Emalyn Nicholson—reaching the semifinal round. Of those seven, Vasquez and Gomez advanced to the finals. Vasquez finished 3rd of the finalists in the 4th/5th Year Post-High School Division, qualifying him for the national NATS auditions in the summer of 2025. Vasquez is a student of Dr. Patrick McNally, assistant professor of voice and director of opera. Learn more about Music at East Texas A&M.
