Faculty Member Honored with TABPHE State Service Award

East Texas A&M faculty member Michele Anderson was recently honored with the Reby Cary Community Service Award by the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (TABPHE) at its 52nd annual state conference in Austin, Texas, on February 18, 2025. The award is given in recognition of outstanding achievements in encouraging and promoting the educational growth of students. Anderson, a clinical instructor and program coordinator in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, has worked at East Texas A&M since 2016. She boasts a storied career in education dating back to 1978, which included stints as a grade-school teacher, an assistant principal and university faculty at multiple locations across the U.S. She also previously served for 16 years in various roles with the Maryland State Department of Education. Founded in 1973, TABPHE has been a dynamic organization that provides a statewide vehicle for a multicultural workforce to learn, share, direct, lead and influence the educational system. One of the founding members and first president of the organization is Ivory Moore, former East Texas A&M administrator and Mayor of Commerce, Texas.
