Female Students Capture Images of Power Through Photography

The Office of Hispanic Outreach and Retention hosted a contest to get students' perspectives on how they perceive, engage with and visualize power. Undergraduate female students on campus were invited to enter the contest, and the winners were Tatiana Chamorro, Erika Woodruff and Kara Saba.

Each participant was asked to submit one to three photographic images of their view of “power.” Each photo was submitted through social media using the hashtags #TAMUC and #ImagesOfPower.

“The photo contest was ‘Images of Power', so we asked undergraduate women about “how they see power” at our university,” said Dr. Fred Fuentes, assistant dean of Enrollment Management for Hispanic Outreach & Retention. “Tatiana reflected a picture of her with her son, Erika reflected an image of two women engaged in a silent moment and Kara reflected a picture of our university football team.”

Each will be rewarded with an evening in Dallas with university leadership, to honor Dr. Michelle Bobadilla. The event, held at the Latina Living Legend, honored Bobadilla for a lifetime of work within the university and DFW area communities.

“The winners of our Image of Power photo contest were able to travel to a formal dinner with our university leadership. How often do undergraduate students have the opportunity to travel with, engage and have dinner with a university vice president? Three of our university undergraduate women were all treated to such an experience as part of winning the inaugural event. We're proud of them and excited about the new tradition that they helped us initiate,” Dr. Fuentes said.
