Homecoming Week Of Activities Begins Oct. 28
COMMERCE, Texas — It’s getting to be that time of year again at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Fall is in the air and Homecoming is almost here.
The annual event will take place over the course of five days, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, with a wide variety of activities scheduled.
The fun begins at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, with Breakout Entertainment hosting “X-Treme Air,” a skydiving simulator. Students can experience “X-Treme Air,” on the West Lawn of the Sam Rayburn Memorial Student Center until 3 p.m.
The Hot Dog Spirit Rally Cook-Out will begin at noon Wednesday. Both the Homecoming Court and the winner of the Window/Banner/Door Contest will be announced. This event on the East Circle of the Student Center will last until 1:30 p.m.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the NAACP will present “Trunk or Treat,” a safety program for children about the do’s and don’ts of trick or treating.
At 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, the Bonfire Pep Rally begins at the band practice field near Whitley Hall.
Saturday, Nov. 1, is the big day of celebration. The Morris Recreation Center will be open all day for free family-oriented fun.
From 8 to 11 a.m., there will be an Alumni Reception and Registration in the Founder’s Lounge, located in the Student Center, and the new Alumni Center on Stonewall Street.
The William Mayo graveside service on the northeast side of campus will start at 10 a.m. The service honors the memory of Professor Mayo, who founded the university in 1889.
The Homecoming Parade, at 10:30, begins from the Alumni Center to Monroe and Live Oak streets, Highway 50 Service Road, and University Drive back to campus. There will be floats, walking groups, the A&M-Commerce Pride Marching Band, Commerce High School Band, and Leonard High School Band.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., alumni, who have published books, professional artists and photographers will be hosting book signings and art displays on the West Lawn of the Student Center.
A tailgate party runs from 11 a.m. until the beginning of the football game at 2 p.m. The party will also be held on the West Lawn.
At 2 p.m., A&M-Commerce will kick off against Southeastern Oklahoma in Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available at the game, or call 903-886-5558.
The Athletic Hall of Fame Reception will run from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Founder’s Lounge, followed by the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet in the Texas Ballroom. The banquet will last from 7 to 9 p.m.
