Jalinna Jones Receives Yellow Rose of Texas Award
Texas State Representative Dan Flynn surprised Jalinna Jones, Texas A&M University-Commerce First Lady, with the Yellow Rose of Texas Award today at the Lt. General Claire Lee Chennault Historic Monument Dedication luncheon.
The Yellow Rose of Texas is the highest award presented to women in Texas. The commission is given by the Governor in honor of Texas women who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer and community service. The process includes submitting the nomination with the individual's biographical information to the State Representative who then sends it on to the Governor. The Governor then makes the selection and the State Representative presents the certificate on the Governor's behalf.
“I am truly honored by this distinction, and very proud to be included among so many strong Texas women who have made a marked difference in their communities, cities and in our great state. I am deeply humbled, and thankful to Representative Flynn for this unexpected honor,” said Jones.
Jones is a seasoned public relations and marketing communications professional, and is dedicated to bettering her campus and community. She is active in a variety of civic organizations and service clubs including the Thalian Culture Club, KETR Public Radio Advisory Board, Northeast Texas Children's Museum, Commerce Public Library, Commerce Leadership Institute, Commerce Chamber of Commerce, Louise Drake Garden Club, Hunt Regional Healthcare Foundation and the Commerce Rotary Club, among others. In 2011, she was named the Commerce, Texas Citizen of the Year. She resides in Commerce with her husband, A&M-Commerce President Dr. Dan Jones, and daughter Aislinn.
