COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce has announced two future football games against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents on Tuesday, beginning the 2024 season at San Diego State and playing at Florida State in 2025.
“We are beyond excited to add San Diego State and Florida State to our future football schedules,” said Director of Athletics Jim Curry. “Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego is one of the newest venues in college football, and Doak Campbell Stadium at Florida State is one of the most iconic venues in the sport.”
“In addition to providing a memorable experience for our student-athletes and fans, these opportunities allow us to showcase our entire university to the rest of the country. Thank you to JD Wicker at San Diego State, and Michael Alford and Mike Norvell at Florida State for affording us these opportunities.”
The Lions begin the 2024 season against the Aztecs at Snapdragon Stadium on August 31, 2024, and play at the Seminoles, the first Power Five conference opponent in program history, on September 6, 2025.
The game against the Aztecs is the 2024 season opener for both teams. This is the second straight season that Lion Football season begins on the last day of August and it is the third ever game at a FBS opponent. Last season, A&M-Commerce fell a two-point conversion short of defeating Old Dominion, who went 6-7 and played in the Famous Toastery Bowl on Monday.
San Diego State enters the 2024 season under the leadership of first-year coach Sean Lewis, who spent last season as the offensive coordinator at Colorado, which followed a head coaching stint at Kent State. The Aztecs, who are a member of the Mountain West conference, went 4-8 last season.
In 2025, the Lions and the Seminoles meet in Tallahassee at Doak Campbell Stadium. It is currently the first scheduled meeting for A&M-Commerce against an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent in any sport. The Seminoles are 13-0 during the 2023 season, having won the ACC and play Georgia in the Orange Bowl on December 30.
The full 2024 schedule for A&M-Commerce will be released soon.
The Lions look ahead to National Signing Day on Wednesday, announcing the first batch of its 2024 recruiting class.
