Lion Track Has Two Individual National Champions, Men Place Seventh in the Nation
The Lion track and field teams had a fantastic spring season in 2021, with numerous individual honors and two individual national championships.
Both the women's and men's teams finished in third place at the Lone Star Conference Championships, with 23 Lions earning All-Conference awards and 29 earning All-Region honors for their work in the regular season.
At the National Championships meet, the Lions' two national championship performances were meet highlights. Regional field athlete of the year Ushan Perera won the national championship in the high jump. The 4×100-meter relay team of Malcolm Woods, J.T. Smith, Andre Norman and Delan Edwin claimed the Lions' first-ever national championships in that event.
Josh Boateng won the silver medal in the discus throw, and Smith and Edwin placed fifth and sixth in the 100-meter dash.
Based on their results at the meet, the Lion men placed seventh in the nation, which is the fifth-highest finish in program history.
