By Lion Athletics

For the 13th season in a row, the East Texas A&M University volleyball team will play a match in the postseason, facing top-seeded Southeastern Louisiana in the quarterfinal round of the Southland Conference Tournament on Friday, November 22 at the Pride Roofing University Center in Hammond, La. at 7 p.m.

The Lions swept New Orleans on Saturday to close out the regular season, helping East Texas A&M clinch the eighth seed in the eight-team tournament. The Lions went 10-18 in the regular season and 7-9 in conference play, which are the most wins against SLC opponents since joining the conference.

In the new-look Southland Conference, the Lions were picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll, but finished in a tie for seventh place, having finished seventh for the second time in three years.

Southeastern comes into the match having won 24 in a row and went 16-0 in conference play this season. The two Lion teams met just last Thursday in Commerce, with SLU taking a 3-1 win. This is the first time the two teams are facing each other in the SLC Tournament.

East Texas A&M is back in the postseason for the 13th year in a row, which is the longest active streak for any sport at ETAMU and the second longest overall. The Lions are searching for their first postseason win since 2022.

The winner of Friday’s quarterfinals will advance to face the winner of fourth-seeded UTRGV and fifth-seeded UIW in the semifinals on Saturday at 5 p.m. The SLC Tournament Championship match is set for 3 p.m. next Sunday.
