Lions Unveil Full 2024 Soccer Schedule
COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer coach Ashley Gordon has unveiled the full 2024 schedule on Thursday afternoon, which features nine home matches at the Lion Soccer Field.
The Lions are looking to build upon a historic season a year ago, posting the first winning record in the Division I era, 9-7-3, and a second-place finish in the Southland Conference.
“I’m excited about the schedule this upcoming year. We have a challenging non-conference schedule that will help prepare us for conference play,” said Gordon, who is entering her third season as the Lion skipper.
Prior to beginning the regular season, the Lions play an exhibition match at Little Rock on August 8.
The regular season kicks off on August 15 against Oral Roberts, marking the second consecutive season that the Lions are starting the season at home against the Golden Eagles. This is the third straight year that the two teams are facing off.
The Lions then head west to UTEP on August 22, a rematch of last season’s 3-2 win for the Lions in Commerce and the road trip closes out against New Mexico State on August 24, the first ever meeting between the two teams.
A two-match home stand on Labor Day Weekend follows. The Lions play North Texas on August 30 and Tarleton on September 1. It is the first time that A&M-Commerce is hosting either team in Commerce. The Lions then play at Tulsa on September 5, after beating the Golden Hurricanes, 2-0, in Commerce last season, which was the Lions’ first non-conference win in Division I era.
On September 8, the Lions play Texas State at home for the first time ever and then head on the road for two-consecutive games to close out non-conference play. A&M-Commerce is at Grambling on September 12 and play at Oklahoma State on September 15, which is the first time the Lions are playing a sitting-Big XII opponent in the Division I era.
Gordon added, “the addition of two new members is exciting for the conference. We are looking forward to our trip down to UTRGV this year and welcoming SFA.”
The Lions’ conference schedule was released earlier this week. A&M-Commerce faces UTRGV on the road to begin SLC play on September 22, followed by a three-match home stand against Stephen F. Austin, Southeastern, and A&M-Corpus Christi on September 27, 29, and October 4, respectively.
Next, A&M-Commerce treks back into Louisiana, the only time this year in conference play, clashing up against Nicholls on October 11 and at Northwestern State on October 13.
The final two home matches of the season come on Homecoming weekend as the Lions welcome McNeese on October 18 and two-time defending conference champion, Lamar on October 20.
The regular season concludes with road games at UIW on October 25 and at Houston Christian on November 1.
The Southland Conference Tournament is back in Corpus Christi this season, host by A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 5-10.
Season tickets will go on sale soon for the nine-match home slate as well as single match tickets.
