Live From Fort Worth: COB Students Experience Live Dr. Phil Taping

Texas A&M University-Commerce’s College of Business is committed to providing innovative opportunities that bridge the gap between theory and practical application. Recently, Yazan Kakish, Director of Marketing and Communication for the College of Business and Adjunct Professor of Marketing, led his Marketing 306 class, along with nearly 60 students, faculty, and staff members, to a live taping of the Dr. Phil show.

The group had the unique opportunity to visit the new Merit Street Media offices, where they toured the state-of-the-art facility before participating as live audience members for two riveting episodes. The first episode addressed the use of psychedelic drugs to treat PTSD, while the second focused on the border crisis.

“This visit to Dr. Phil and Merit Street Media exemplifies our commitment to enriching the educational experience through real-world exposure,” said Yazan Kakish. “Seeing the production process and being part of a live studio audience offered invaluable insights that extend beyond classroom instruction. This experience allowed students to witness the practical applications of their studies in a professional setting.”

Alexandria Cox, Outreach Specialist who accompanied the group, emphasized the value of such experiential learning opportunities.

“Witnessing the dynamics of a live show and the intricacies of media production gives our students a competitive edge,” Cox said. “These experiences empower them to apply their academic knowledge in practical settings, making them more prepared for their future careers.”

This excursion is a testament to the college's dedication to enhancing student learning through immersive experiences. By bridging academic theory with practical application, the university ensures that students are well-equipped to succeed in their professional careers.
