Message from Dean Johnson
Greetings from the College of Education and Human Services at Texas A&M University-Commerce. All of us here in the college, faculty, staff and administration continue the history of service to our community, state and nation by preparing professionals to serve in others. Our college's first professionals followed the dream of our founder Dr. Mayo and changed the face of education in Texas through excellence in teaching in our schools. In the more than 100 years since, we have prepared not only teachers but school administrators, counselors, school psychologists, social workers, and professionals in the field of health and most recently we are educating the future nurses of our area. The work our college has done and continues to do impacts the quality of life of the citizens in our region and the world. We know so many of you share our history and our dreams for the future.
The college is an exciting place to be now. We keep expanding our horizons as we work to help our students attain their dreams. Our faculty maintains the goal of providing a quality education to each and every student. We work to keep our best traditions while meeting the challenges of a change time. Our nursing lab has state of the art human simulators to train our nurses in patient care. Our new Leo/Leonie Teach workshop provides a place for our future teachers to practice state of the art science and math teaching skills. Our two clinic sites train our psychology professionals, counselors and diagnosticians. Although we work to prepare our students for a modern world we know that the most important thing we provide is an example that each person is important and deserves the best we can give. Our goal is for all of our graduates to be the best professionals in their fields.
We hope you will enjoy this newsletter which highlights a few of the things going on here on campus. We are looking to the future while holding on to our heritage. You may see familiar faces in the article on our Council of Sages. If you have not been on campus recently we hope you will visit soon. You will find surprising transformations and yet familiar surroundings with a long history. The dean's office is always open to students, faculty, alumni or community representatives that share our dream of excellence. Please stop by and see us.
Gail Johnson,
Interim Dean
