National Society of Leadership and Success
The National Society of Leadership and Success, or Sigma Alpha Pi, is a lifetime membership honor society whose membership is based on academic standing and leadership potential. The society was founded in 2001 and has amassed 482,009 members divided into 479 chapters at colleges around the nation.
Sigma Alpha Pi got its start on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus in 2012 and has quickly become the largest organization on campus. Chances are that you've come across students involved in Sigma Alpha Pi as they are encouraged to assist with events hosted by the university such as multi-cultural shows, Lions Leap and Career Development events. The hard work and dedication exhibited by the students involved in the society led to the organization winning New Student Organization of the Year in 2013.
Even if the organization is unfamiliar to you, their most notable event should not be. The society sponsors a six-event Speaker Broadcast series which brings some of the world's top presenters via video stream to the campus of A&M-Commerce. Past speakers have included best-selling authors Brad Meltzer, Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Students of A&M Commerce have also had the opportunity to listen to presentations from on air personality Dan Harris, ex-NBA player turned ESPN announcer Stephen Bardo, Mrs. Fields Cookies' creator Debbi Fields, and Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, thanks to the National Society of Leadership and Success.
Sigma Alpha Pi's next Speaker Broadcast, which takes place on October 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Ferguson Auditorium, will give students the opportunity to hear Al Roker's journey to success.
