New Forney Middle School to be Named After TAMUC Alums
A groundbreaking was held on April 18, 2023, in Forney, Texas, for a new middle school that will be named after long-time Forney ISD educators and A&M-Commerce alumni Donald P. Themer and Vivian N. Themer. The Donald P. and Vivian N. Themer Middle School is scheduled for completion in 2024.
Donald Themer graduated as valedictorian from Forney High School in 1969. He attended East Texas State University (now A&M-Commerce) as an honors program student and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences in 1973.
Donald taught at Forney ISD for 37 years. His classes included English, social studies, humanities, journalism, speech and athletics/physical education. Themer was named Teacher of the Year on more than one occasion.
Vivian, Donald's wife, graduated from Forney High School in 1978. She earned her bachelor's degree from Texas Woman's University in 1991 and her Master of Education degree from A&M-Commerce in 2011. Vivian taught home economics and special education. She also served as assistant principal at Blackburn Elementary School in Forney for four years. Vivian is a two-time Teacher of the Year awardee.
