Office of Global Programs Celebrates Study Abroad Programs
The Office of Global Programs recently hosted a showcase highlighting study abroad opportunities and participants' past experiences.
“While providing students opportunities to see new places is integral to the study abroad learning process, substantive learning comes when students realize, at once, their own uniqueness within the global context while also learning how much they have in common with people of other cultures, ethnicities and races,” said Global Programs Executive Director Jacques Fuqua. “When this is understood within the broader construct of the 21st century global citizenry, we will have begun to lay the all-important cornerstones of building a strong global community.”
During the summer of 2016, students from Texas A&M University-Commerce traveled to Cuba, Costa Rica, Sweden, Poland, the United Kingdom, France and China to study various disciplines including social work, political science, counseling, music, business and sociology. Additionally, students representing the Global Scholars program traveled abroad. The students who traveled on these trips provided presentations about their trips at the showcase.
Faculty members were also invited to attend an additional recruitment luncheon designed to inform faculty about the process of leading a trip.
