PhysTEC Fellows Named

Dr. Robynne Lock, Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and Dr. William Newton, Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy, have been named PhysTEC fellows. PhysTEC is a national partnership between the American Physical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers. It is aimed at improving and promoting the education of future physics teachers.

“We are committed to increasing the number of highly qualified physics teachers, and this fellowship will help us achieve that goal,” said Dr. Lock.

PhysTEC Fellowships are designed to give recognition and support to faculty involved in preparing physics teachers, providing access to national physics teacher preparation leaders, helping Fellows to become more visible leaders in the community, and increase competitiveness for future funding opportunities.

“I'm honored and excited to be awarded a PhysTEC Fellowship. I'm looking forward to collaborating with physics education experts around the nation to ensure the continuing development of our physics teacher program and the preparation of the best physics teachers in Texas and beyond,” said Dr. Newton.

Dr. Lock and Newton will join the first cohort of 15 faculty members at 5 institutions across the nation. Throughout the two years of the fellowship, they will work with their institutional team to develop and implement changes to improve and develop their physics teacher preparation program.
