Political Science Student Studies in Qatar
The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations recently selected a group of university students and professors, who had served on their campus's National Council's Model Arab League program, to visit Qatar's capital, Doha through the Qatar Study Visit Exchange and Malone Fellowship.
David Gosbee, an A&M-Commerce political science and history education student, was selected as one of a few students in the nation to receive the fellowship and traveled with the group from November 28 until December 5, 2014.
“This trip let me experience many differences between cultures, governing styles, economic styles, and human capital approaches to education,” said Gosbee. “It has helped to make me more aware as a member of the growing class of global citizens that our campus is working so hard to produce.”
One goal of the program is to increase American and Arab relations. Students and professors in the program met with many people including Qatari government officials, civil society actors, educators, students, businesspeople and journalists.
The Model Arab League gives students the opportunities to debate as diplomats and discuss real issues according to the agenda set by the real Arab League.
A&M-Commerce will host its Model Arab League event with sessions including, Committee Session I from 11 to 12 p.m. and Committee Session II from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday April 9 and Committee Session III from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Committee Session IV from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday April 10. All sessions will take place on the second floor of the Rayburn Student Center.
