Sigma Alpha Pi Shares a Cultural Exchange

For the first time ever, National Society of Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi) at Texas A&M University-Commerce provided several international students with the cultural experience of going through a “boot camp” version of its semester-long leadership training program.

Over the last few weeks, Sigma Alpha Pi has been working with 19 students from Namseoul University, Korea, to lay the groundwork to become members of the nationally recognized organization.

Students underwent a step-by-step leadership program in which they were shown how to enhance life goals and how to build their leadership skills through participation at their campus or online. At the end of the program, the students attended a ceremony, wherein they were inducted into the organization.

“This experience has been so life changing for me and I know it has been for the Korean students and also for our other advisors and executive board members who were involved,” said advisor of the society, Coy Martin. “We hope to stay in contact with the Namseoul University students and hopefully get to hear wonderful success stories from them.”

Sigma Alpha Pi has been at the university for over four years. It began in the fall of 2012 with just about 75 students, and now it has grown into the largest organization on the A&M-Commerce campus, with over 300 inducted students per semester.

The National Society of Leadership and Success is the nation’s largest leadership honor society, for which students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential.  Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction.  With 554 chapters, the society currently has 704,445 members nationwide.
