Sigma Theta Tau International Comes to A&M-Commerce
Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing has expanded its Iota Nu Chapter to include Texas A&M University-Commerce as of November 2015.
Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing was started by six nursing students in 1922, and has grown to more than 135,000 active members in over 90 countries with around 500 chapters worldwide. The Iota Nu Chapter has become a chapter at large to include A&M-Commerce and East Texas Baptist University. The Iota Nu Chapter was established in 1985 and chartered in 1988 at the University of Texas at Tyler. The chapter has more than 325 members.
“Our local chapter will now be the Iota Nu Chapter at Large with a purpose to advance knowledge, participate in collaboration and service, and to establish an atmosphere of life-long learning,” said Connie Wyszynski, president of the Iota Nu Chapter at Large.
There are two ways to be inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Nursing students who maintain a GPA of greater than or equal to 3.0 and are included in the top 35% of their graduating class will receive an invitation to join the honor society. Nurse leaders who have proven their leadership and have met the criteria set by the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing board will also be eligible for induction. On April 21, 89 new members were inducted into the Iota Nu Chapter at Large during the Spring Charter Amendment/Induction Ceremony at the Cascades Country Club in Tyler, Texas.
