Smith County Alumni Donate Funds for Scholarships

COMMERCE, Texas — The Smith County Alumni of Texas A&M University-Commerce have donated $50,000 for three scholarships to be awarded to Smith County students attending A&M-Commerce this fall.

About 100 met May 6 at the Bank of Tyler to hear from bank president and alumnus Ted Conover, A&M-Commerce President Dan Jones, athletic director Carlton Cooper, and several coaches, including head football coach Guy Morris, formerly of Baylor, and student athletes being recruited to the university.

The effort is to encourage student athletes to enroll at A&M-Commerce. More than 2,500 A&M-Commerce alumni live in Smith County.
