TAMUC Alum Selected as Finalist for National Principal of the Year
Colleyville Middle School principal David Arencibia, Ed.D., was selected as one of three finalists for the National Principal of the Year award by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Arencibia graduated from A&M-Commerce in 2004 with a Master of Education in Secondary and Higher Education.
The award recognizes outstanding middle and high school principals who provide high-quality learning opportunities for students and contribute exemplarily to their profession. Under Arencibia's direction, Colleyville Middle School was named a Texas School to Watch in 2020 by The National Forum and a National PTA School of Excellence from 2020 to 2022.
Each year, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools, and the Department of Defense Education Activity select one middle or high school principal to represent their state. From the state winners, three finalists contend for the title of National Principal of the Year. This year, the honor went to Donna Hayward from Haddam Killingsworth High School in Connecticut.
Arencibia's accomplishment has been highlighted in several prominent publications, including the Dallas Morning News and Education Week.
