TAMUC Alumni Return to Campus for Defense Contract Audit Agency Career Event
The College of Business at Texas A&M University-Commerce recently hosted an event on October 3 featuring Christopher Clayton, an alumnus and current member of the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA), and Daniel Deku, a former IRS Criminal Investigation Division agent.
Held in BA 221, the event attracted approximately 40 students and faculty members who gathered to explore career paths in government auditing and cost management.
Through presentations and an engaging Q&A session, Clayton and Deku discussed the DCAA’s role in managing defense contracts, explaining how the agency helps the federal government maintain fiscal responsibility by preventing unnecessary cost overruns. Clayton shared insights into his career path and the significant opportunities available for students interested in accounting within federal agencies.
“Events like these are essential for showing students that the skills they are acquiring in their coursework have direct applications in various industries,” noted Matt Cremeans, CPA, Instructor of Accounting. “Our students learned not only about the DCAA but also about the paths that lead to such careers, including how to apply for federal jobs and internships.”
Scott Wheeler, Dean of the College of Business, underscored the value of this event, stating, “We are constantly seeking innovative ways to prepare our students for the professional world. Bringing in alumni and industry experts allows our students to see real-world applications of their studies and provides them with networking opportunities they might not otherwise have.”
By inviting A&M-Commerce alumni back to share their stories, the College of Business continues to foster a community that supports and inspires future generations of business professionals.
